Residential building company SummerHill Homes is seeing a change in leadership, with the company’s current president being appointed to CEO while his predecessor steps into a different position with the company.

SummerHill President Chris Neighbor was announced as the San Ramon-based company’s new CEO this week, with former CEO Robert Freed transitioning to a co-chair position as of this month.

“We are thrilled to appoint Chris Neighbor as our new CEO,” Freed said in an announcement from SummerHill on Monday. “Under his leadership as President, SummerHill Homes has achieved significant milestones, solidifying its reputation as a trusted name in the homebuilding industry. We have full confidence in his ability to lead SummerHill Homes to even greater success, while remaining keenly focused on expanding our land pipeline.”

Neighbor will take on the CEO role alongside his current position as president. Freed also previously held both positions when he first joined the company in 2007.

In addition to his tenure as president, Neighbor has more than a decade of experience with the company, including as executive vice president, and managing director of acquisitions and construction.

“I am deeply honored and excited to take on the role of CEO at SummerHill Homes,” Neighbor said in Monday’s announcement. “I am committed to building upon our past achievements, fostering innovation and driving growth across all facets of our business. With our dedicated team, I am confident we will continue to exceed expectations and deliver outstanding results.”

Freed is set to remain part of that team, where he will continue to work with Neighbor and to “contribute his expertise to the company’s strategic direction.”

Neighbor is taking the company’s executive reins at a time of continuous growth for SummerHill, which is seeking to meet the demands of the current Bay Area housing market with expanded operations throughout the region with an additional 1,200 homes anticipated to be built between 2024 and 2026.

In his new role, Neighbor will be at the helm of all of the company’s operations and “working closely with the executive team to implement strategic initiatives, capitalize on market opportunities, and further strengthen the company’s position as a leader in the real estate sector,” according to officials in Monday’s announcement.
