Fremont-based Lam Research, a provider of semiconductor fabrication equipment and services, recently opened its largest U.S. warehouse in Livermore to serve as the company’s statewide logistics hub.
Spanning about 470,000 square feet, the facility, located in the Oaks Business Park, will be used to manage inventory, retrieval and distribution for customers, the company’s manufacturing operations in Livermore and its research and development operations at the Fremont headquarters. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Sept. 28.
Lam equipment is used to make nearly all advanced chips in the world, and the new hub is meant to improve the company’s operations and efficiency at a time of growing demand for semiconductors, company officials said in a statement. They said the growth is driven by artificial intelligence, which, as it is scaled, requires more computing power, memory capacity and energy efficiency.

“With all operations under a single roof, we can create a more agile and efficient operation,” Lam’s U.S. Warehouse Operations Director Troy Rainey said in a statement.
Centralizing the supply-chain hub means Lam can shift resources to meet demand while avoiding the costs associated with moving people and materials between multiple facilities, he added.
The warehouse can store up to 500,000 unique parts, company officials said. Thanks to its 40,000-square-foot automated storage and retrieval system and more than a dozen robots, Lam employees can locate and retrieve items in less than 30 seconds. The system is 12 times faster than Lam’s previous warehouse systems, company officials said.

By 2027, the warehouse is expected to be responsible for more than 240 jobs.
Initial operations at the hub have begun, Lam officials confirmed Monday.
