The district has launched an anonymous online survey aimed at soliciting input from the community at large in the selection process for Malloy’s successor, encouraging everyone to participate.

“This is an opportunity for the Board to receive input from students, staff, parents/caregivers and the wider San Ramon Valley community,” officials said in an announcement Wednesday.

The survey offers the opportunity to rank priorities in selecting the district’s next superintendent, as well as to weigh in on the current state of the district and the challenges Malloy’s successor might face.

Community members are invited to share their perspectives via the survey through March 22 at 4 p.m.

“We thank our entire community for their support of SRVUSD, and their partnership and participation in this important effort to select our next district leader,” district officials said.

I-680 closure is on

With the forecast looking clear, Caltrans officials confirmed that the I-680 southbound closure in the Tri-Valley remains on as scheduled for this weekend as of press time.
The freeway will be fully shut down in the southbound direction between the I-580/I-680 connector in Pleasanton down to the Koopman Road interchange in Sunol from 9 p.m. this Friday (March 15) to 4 a.m. Monday (March 18) to allow for major repaving work. The southbound sides of Foothill Road and Pleasanton Sunol Road will also be closed through the area.

Originally planned for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend and later the Presidents’ Day weekend, the project was canceled due to inclement weather both times and ultimately rescheduled for this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Caltrans officials noted that with the holiday festivities on Saturday and Sunday, all freeway ramps into Dublin on I-580 and I-680 will be open.

San Ramon resident survey

The City of San Ramon is seeking input from residents on the city’s finances and budget priorities in a new online survey aimed at helping leaders address the challenges of rising costs and look towards solutions for underfunded capital improvement projects.

“The City’s responsible budgetary practices have helped us provide high-quality services and earned awards for fiscal prudence,” City Manager Steven Spedowfski said in a letter to residents on March 10. “However, with rising operating costs and other financial pressures, maintaining a balanced budget has become a growing burden.”

Spedowfski noted that the city is currently prioritizing the maintenance of existing service levels and seeking to minimize impacts to General Fund reserves, as well as keeping infrastructure maintenance funds in tact as leaders explore options for addressing funding challenges.

“One option under consideration is asking voters to support a modest increase to the city’s local sales tax on the November 2024 ballot,” Spedowfski said. “I want to stress that no decisions have been made yet and we are only exploring options.”

The resident survey is available here through April 30.

Irish history program

The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is set to leverage the interest in Irish culture and heritage brough on annually with St. Patricks Day for their upcoming virtual program next week, which will center on the Friendship City relationship between Danville and New Ross, Ireland and how it came to be.

One aspect of the connection between the two cities is that New Ross is where playwright Eugene O’Neill’s family origins stem from, prior to the prolific writing career that saw him settle in Danville at what is now known as the Tao House for his later work.

Dan McGovern, co-president of the Eugene O’Neill Foundation, is set to lead the discussion about O’Neill’s origins and the relationship between the two communities.

The free virtual program is set for 11:30 a.m. on March 21. Registration is available here. https://museumsrv.org/event/st-patricks-day-virtual-program/

Abstract art film

The Village Theatre Art Gallery’s current abstract exhibit “Driven to Distraction” is set to close out with a film screening aimed at providing insight into the life and inspiration of an abstract artist at the close of the exhibit next week.

The exhibit’s final day will conclude with a film screening of “Beyond the Visible,” which tells the story of early abstract artist Hilma af Klint.

“Hilma af Klint was an abstract artist before the term existed, introducing her visionary works beginning in 1906,” organizers said in an announcement Tuesday. “She has since been rediscovered, including this documentary.”

The film screening is scheduled for 5 p.m. on March 23 at 233 Front St. in Danville. Tickets are available here.
