Student film fest and public art
The Town of Danville is seeking submissions from middle and high school students in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District for its first ever student film festival, as well as for its ongoing public art programming.
Students are invited to submit original art works for consideration for the town’s annual Community Pianos program by May 24, and to submit original short films for the student film festival by July 10.
In addition to current middle and high school students in the San Ramon Valley, the programs are open to the graduating class of 2024.
More information on the applications and events is available here.
AANHPI celebration
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is gearing up to recognize May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with their annual county-wide celebration.
The theme of this year’s event is “Building on our Legacies,” with festivities set to include dance, music, food, and other cultural offerings from the communities being celebrated with the heritage month.
The public celebration is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. on May 14 in the Board Chambers at 1025 Escobar St. in Martinez. It will also be live streamed via Contra Costa Television. More information is available here.
Art in the Park
The Town of Danville is inviting young artists between 5 and 10 years old and their families to explore children’s creativity via a range of media in the upcoming Art in the Park.
In addition to fostering creativity, the event is aimed at allowing children to explore “messy” means of expression – outdoors, on city grounds, and with no cleanup required by families – via process-based arts and take home crafts according to event organizers.
Art in the Park is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. at Oak Hill Park in Danville on May 19. More information is available by contacting Recreation Superintendent Jessica Wallner at 925-314-3426 or jwallner@danville.ca.gov.
