The Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance is presenting a special screening next week of the 2023 documentary “UnCharitable” followed by a conversation with the activist and author Dan Pallotta, who features prominently in the film.

The event next Wednesday evening serves to mark the 10th anniversary of the alliance while inspiring “new ways of thinking about the role and impact of nonprofits in society … Pallotta is renowned for his provocative views on nonprofit funding and management, which he shared in his widely viewed TED Talks,” TVNPA officials said in a press release.

“Imagine a world where nonprofits have the funds they need,” TVNPA CEO Kathy Young stated in the press release. “Consider the possibilities when nonprofits can competitively pay their staff, have up-to-date technology, and the resources they need to fulfill their true missions.”

Drawing from Pallotta’s efforts in the nonprofit field, “UnCharitable” — directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal — “exposes the dark side of philanthropy and introduces a radical new way of giving,” according to the documentary’s website.

TVNPA’s “Charity Reimagined: An Evening with Dan Pallotta” is scheduled for next Wednesday (May 15) from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. For more information, visit tvnpa.org.
