DPD open house

The Danville Police Department is hosting a free open house at the end of the month, aimed at providing the community insight into the department’s operations and to meet officers face to face.

Community members can also participate in tours of the department, drone and K9 demonstrations, and view vehicles and equipment on display.

“This Open House is an excellent way for residents to connect with their local officers, see the facility firsthand, and learn more about the critical role the department plays in maintaining safety in Danville,” town officials said in an announcement Thursday.

The family-friendly event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 28 at 500 La Gonda Rd.

SRVUSD students earn AP awards

A total of 43 students at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District have earned nods for their success in AP courses in the past school year from two different programs from the national Advanced Placement Program.

The AP Capstone Diploma was granted to 29 students in the district, with an additional 14 students earning AP Seminar and Research certificates, according to an announcement from the district on Tuesday.

“We are proud of these students and appreciative of the very dedicated educators who supported their learning,”  SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in the district’s announcement.  “Our students are not only developing essential college and career skills but are also exploring their passions.”

Students are required to earn scores of 3 or higher in AP seminar and research classes, as well as four additional AP exams of their choice, in order to earn the AP Capstone Diploma. The Seminar and Research Certificate is awarded to students who receive scores of 3 or higher in both seminar and research classes.

The City of San Ramon has announced a call for featured artists for its next Art and Wind Festival, one of the valley’s most popular Memorial Day celebrations.

“The artwork shall represent the City of San Ramon and the Art & Wind Festival. Previous pieces have depicted the art and wind themes in some way using items such as kites, balloons, butterflies, windsocks, paint palettes, brushes, pinwheels, etc., to show elements of the annual event,” organizers said in an announcement from the city on Sept. 13. “Other non-literal art interpretations of the event are acceptable if they can capture the spirit of the event.”

The artist selected will be provided with a $750 stipend for materials and time, as well as free gallery space at one of the city’s art galleries for a full exhibit in May.

Applications are open to all Tri-Valley artists over the age of 16 through Oct. 23. More information is available here.

I-680 closure

A reminder to Tri-Valley residents and would-be travelers that Caltrans is fully closing Interstate 680 southbound from Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon to the I-580/I-680 connector in Dublin from 9 p.m. this Friday (Sept. 20) through 4 a.m. Monday (Sept. 23).

Caltrans urges motorists to plan accordingly, while noting that the two freeways’ connector will itself remain open. The freeway closure aims to allow construction crews to complete a large amount of work in one go — the equivalent of approximately 40 nighttime closures’ worth.
