The Danville Town Council is set to gather for its annual Mayor’s Installation and Community Awards Ceremony on Tuesday evening, which is set to include the announcement of the new mayor and vice mayor for the upcoming year and mark the final day of Mayor Karen Stepper’s current turn at the head of the council and of Vice Mayor Dave Fong’s first and only term on the council.

While Stepper will be passing the torch to the next mayor in the annual rotation, her current term on the at-large council – her sixth in total, with her current tenure as mayor marking the fifth of her 22 years on the council – is set to continue through 2026. Fong announced earlier in the year that he would not be seeking reelection for an additional term, with the upcoming event set to be his final one at the dais.

The event will also include a vote by the council to accept the final certified election results from the county, which are set to be made available Tuesday afternoon, and the swearing in of the three winners in this year’s town council election.

Renee Morgan is set to be sworn in for her fourth term in office, Newell Arnerich for his eighth term in office, and Mark Belotz for his first-ever term on the council or in any elected position.

The first order of business on the agenda for Tuesday’s ceremony, however, is the town’s annual Community Awards Ceremony.

The Mayor’s Installation and Community Awards Ceremony is set to kick off at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 3) in the Village Theatre at 233 Front St. The agenda is available here.
