DeSaulnier town hall
Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is hosting a town hall meeting at the end of the month with the theme of preparing for the incoming congress.
DeSaulnier is set to discuss the priorities he and his fellow house Democrats have going in the 119th Congress and their expectations for the current presidential administration, as well as his own work in office in preparation and questions from constituents.
The event is set for Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Community Arts at 111 N. Wiget Lane in Walnut Creek. To RSVP or submit a question, click here.
Sunrise Ridge Playground closure
Due to safety concerns, the playground at Sunrise Ridge Park in San Ramon has been closed until further notice according to an announcement from the city. No further reason was given and no opening date was included in the Jan. 17 announcement.
Innovation in Education
The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation is hosting its Celebrate Innovation in Education luncheon next month, which will include a state of the district address from SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible work happening across our district, including things like the Solutionary Academy at Dougherty Valley High and the eSports club and gaming lab at Cal High,” Cammack said in an announcement from the district on Jan. 16. “I look forward to attending and sharing how our partnership with the Endowment Fund plays a vital role in supporting our students’ success. I encourage all community members to join us and learn more about the impactful work of the SRVEF.”

CERT training academy
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is hosting a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training academy that starts this weekend.
The training is aimed at preparing community members in disaster response and preparedness, fire safety, search and rescue, team organization, and disaster psychology among other topics.
The goal of the program is to provide residents an introduction to “basic disaster response skills and how to use these skills to help themselves, their neighbors, and their broader community in a time of need when first responders may be overwhelmed,” according to an announcement from the City of San Ramon.
The free, 27-hour course is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, Jan. 26, and Feb. 1. Registration is available here.
Lunar New Year
San Ramon’s City Center Bishop Ranch is joining the Tri-Valley and worldwide revelry of Lunar New Year next Sunday (Feb. 2) from 2-4 p.m. with its free annual Lunar New Year celebration in Alexander Square.
“Occurring every 12 years in the lunar zodiac cycle, the Year of the Snake represents wisdom and renewal,” City Center reps said. “This annual event embraces these themes through captivating Chinese dance performances, live music, a talented contortionist and the magic of the Bian Lian ‘face changer’. The afternoon of entertainment will also feature the iconic dragon dance, bringing excitement and energy into the new year.”
