State of the Town video

Those who weren’t in attendance for Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich’s State of the Town speech last month – and those who want to revisit the discussion – can do so via the town’s Youtube channel.

A crowd of prominent local officials and community members in the San Ramon Valley filled the event space at Crow Canyon Country Club on March 25, networking over wine, iced tea, and lemonade in the early part of the event before being seated for lunch, recognitions, and Arnerich’s speech on highlights for the town over the past year.

Arnerich addressed the crowd on some of the topics he’s most passionate about: the town’s fiscal health, low crime rates, and its tight-knit community that has supported him over his more than 30 years on the council.

Video of the full speech is available here.

Children’s makers market

The event, which is being co-sponsored by the city of San Ramon, will take place on Saturday (April 18) at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center. Over 45 businesses from youth entrepreneurs will be participating in the event, which is essentially a marketplace for kids to create, plan and launch their own businesses.

According to a flyer for the event, some of the products people can expect to see at the event include baked goods, handcrafted jewelry and candles, and 3D printed items.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

DA’s office report

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has released its annual report for 2025, touting high prosecution rates, guilty convictions in prominent felony trials, and other highlights ranging from the two new therapy dogs in the Victim Services unit to a new East County office to cold case breakthroughs.

“We are making meaningful progress with a sharp focus on public safety, pragmatic solutions, and alternatives to a one-size-fits-all criminal justice system,” said District Attorney Becton in a press release Tuesday. “By modernizing our infrastructure and focusing on victim-centered practices, we are ensuring that accountability and support go hand-in-hand to keep our communities safe”

Tree planting at Alamo roundabout

Drivers on Danville Boulevard in Alamo are being advised to prepare for five to 10 minute delays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (April 22) at the Orchard Court intersection as contractors for the public works department take to the area to install a new tree that will “enhance the aesthetic of the roundabout,” the agency said in a press release Tuesday.

The roundabout was installed in 2023 as part of a street improvement program for the intersection, with the tree installation marking a final step in paving and landscaping work that has been ongoing in the years since.

Night with the Stars

The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation is hosting its annual Night with the Stars gala at the end of the month, aimed at recognizing community members throughout the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, bestowing honors on its 36 “shining stars” of the year as well as the district’s teachers and classified employee of the year.

“It will be an evening for parents, teachers, administrators, community members and our steadfast supporters to come together in celebration of a great year, and the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s investment in a world class educational experience,” SRVEF Executive Director Vanessa Berastain said in a press release Monday. “We appreciate the support of our sponsors, and the value they place in public education.”

The 21+ event is set for April 28 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville. Registration and more information is available here.
