San Ramon teen wins national golf championship
San Ramon’s own Nakul Shrivastava was among two winners crowned in this year’s First Tee National Golf Championship at the University of North Carolina earlier this week.
“I’m feeling pretty good, very excited that I got to win this, and it was a really good opportunity,” said Shrivastava in a press release Thursday. “No matter how nervous I got or doubted myself this week, I just remembered confidence is key. I just persevered through that, and I played pretty well.”
Despite his young age as a rising junior, Shrivastava boasts a long tenure with First Tee Tri-Valley, having golfed with the organization since he was 6 years old. He took home the boys’ championship after beating out the 23 other competitors from across the country at the conclusion of the tournament that was held from June 21 to June 25.
Shrivastava and his fellow winner, Arizona’s Ashley Shaw, are now gearing up for the PURE Insurance Championship in Florida in September.
City Council nomination info meeting
The city of San Ramon is hosting a pre-nomination informational meeting on its upcoming elections for mayor and two city council seats.

The event is open to the public, and not restricted to potential candidates. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 8 at City Hall, ahead of the nomination period from July 13 to August 7,
VTAG exhibit
The town of Danville is gearing up for its next exhibit at the Village Theatre Art Gallery, with the latest offering set to center on the array of artistic possibilities that simple pencil drawing can offer, with “More Than a Line” set to debut on July 10.
“This summer, the Town of Danville invites the community to reconsider one of the most familiar creative tools through More Than a Line, a new exhibition at the Village Theatre Art Gallery,” organizers said in a press release. “Centered on the simple pencil, the exhibition explores how a single medium can produce an extraordinary range of styles, textures, and expression.”
The opening reception July 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. will kick of a monthslong run for the exhibit, which will also feature hands-on workshops on Aug. 12 for artists between the ages of 5 and 10, and on Aug. 19 for teen and adult artists.
