Futures Explored has opened a new Pleasanton facility for its Go Group program, creating a larger space for participants to gather and connect with the community.
A grand opening was held June 23 to mark the new facility. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and welcomed friends, families, neighbors and supporters from across the East Bay.
Since 1964, Futures Explored has served adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its programs include community connections, personal wellness, education and employment, as well as film and media.
The Go Group is designed to help people who want to be active in the community. The program provides support and encouragement for participants to take part in activities such as employment, volunteerism, education on college campuses and travel training to access their communities independently.
The program also builds skills for independence through money management, cooking, exercise and health, as well as health and safety preparation.
Marie Stapleton, a Futures Explored board member, said the new Pleasanton facility will allow the organization to enroll more participants in the Go Group.
She noted the new location is easily accessible from interstates 580 and 680, and the facility can be easily reached by BART and Wheels. Such access will allow participants to explore new areas, meet new people and potentially partner with local businesses.Â
