Two men accused of committing an armed robbery in San Ramon on Tuesday evening were later arrested in Oakland thanks in part to information shared between police departments from license plate reader camera technology, according to authorities.

The arrestees were booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and face the prospect of criminal charges in both San Ramon and Oakland after the busy night, according to the San Ramon Police Department.

The investigation began unfolding around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 18) when San Ramon police officers received a call about an armed robbery at the Cobblestone Apartments on Crow Canyon Road.

“The victim reported that two male suspects, both armed with handguns, assaulted him and took items of value from his person,” police said in a news release. “The victim sustained minor injuries, and the suspects fled the area in a silver sedan.”

Investigators leveraged the city’s Flock technology to identify the suspect vehicle as a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and disseminate the license plate number and sedan description to law enforcement agencies in the area, according to SRPD.

“The Hyundai was subsequently located by officers from the Oakland Police Department, resulting in a vehicle pursuit,” SRPD stated. “The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the City of Oakland. Both suspects fled on foot but were apprehended by officers.”

Oakland police allegedly found a loaded firearm in the car during a search after the crash. San Ramon detectives later responded to Oakland to process the Sonata for evidence, the department said.

The duo – identified by police as Isiah Burns, 22, of San Francisco and Joseph Broussard, 27, of Oakland – were arrested on suspicion of crimes committed in Oakland related to the chase, crash and attempt to run, and San Ramon police reported they later obtained warrants related to the armed robbery in their jurisdiction.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information can contact SRPD detectives at 925-973-2700.
