The Danville Town Council is poised to sign off on the latest progress report for the town’s recently updated Housing Element as part of the consent agenda at its upcoming regular meeting.
According to the report, the town has so far approved 127 units out of the allotted 2,241 that was assigned to Danville in the Regional Housing Needs Assessment by the Association of Bay Area Governments ahead of the update process for the 2023 to 2031 Housing Element cycle.
Of the 127 units approved in the first year of the current cycle, four out of the assigned 652 units are for very low incomes, with 19 out of 376 units so far approved for low incomes, 18 out of 338 are approved for moderate incomes, and 86 out of 875 are approved for above moderate incomes.
“It is important to note that state law does not require cities to build housing,” Chief of Planning David Crompton wrote in a staff report prepared for the meeting. “The development of housing is driven by private market forces. The Town’s obligation is to provide an appropriate amount of land, with the proper General Plan land use designation and the appropriate zoning designation, to accommodate the private development of housing units for the assigned quantity and affordability levels.”
The Danville Town Council is set to meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (April 2). The agenda is available here.
