The Danville Town Council will hold a public hearing and likely take a vote at their next regular meeting on a proposed resolution to remove two prominent bike safety advocates and founding members of the town’s Bicycle Advisory Commission.

Following a series of discussions on the status, roles and membership of the commission over the course of last year, most recently at their Dec. 10 study session, the council directed town staff to prepare the resolution on the table at the upcoming meeting in which the council is set to vote on whether or not to remove Al Kalin and Bruce Bilodeau from the commission.

“Commissioners Bilodeau and Kalin were both appointed to the BAC as original members in 2022 and their terms run through June 30, 2026,” City Attorney Robert Ewing wrote in a staff report for the upcoming meeting. “Should either or both commissioners be removed, the Town would begin a recruitment process for replacement members to fill out the remaining terms of anyone removed.”

In addition to being founding members of the commission, which was established in 2022 as part of the town’s first-ever Bicycle Master Plan, Kalin and Bilodeau are prominent members of Mount Diablo Cyclists, with Kalin serving as the group’s president and Bilodeau also on its leadership team.

According to the regulations of the commission, members can be removed at any time by a majority council vote.

The Danville Town Council is set to meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 14). The agenda is available here.

In other business, Chandler Asset Management will provide a presentation on the town’s quarterly investment report.
