The San Ramon Valley Unified School District has issued a message to the district community following a physical altercation at Monte Vista High School in Danville this week that resulted in the hospitalization of a teacher and the arrest of a student.

Officers with the Danville Police Department along with first-responders from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection district arrived at the scene at approximately 1:05 p.m. Monday, in which they found a teacher with injuries and went on to locate a minor student allegedly involved in the assault, who was booked into juvenile hall.

“While this is a deeply disturbing event, it does not define the exceptional character and conduct of our student body at Monte Vista and SRVUSD,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in a message to the community later that day. “As a community, we share a collective responsibility to care for one another and ensure that Monte Vista and SRVUSD remain places where everyone is physically and emotionally safe.”

Identities of the teacher who was assaulted in the classroom and the student who was taken into custody are not being released by the district or DPD.

“We are cooperating with Danville Police in their investigation, and we will ensure appropriate consequences will be administered to the student in accordance with our policies and provisions of the Education Code,” Cammack said. “The safety of our students and our staff is a top priority and any unsafe or dangerous conduct will not be tolerated at Monte Vista or at any school in SRVUSD.”

The DPD investigation was ongoing, with no further details available as of Wednesday afternoon. Anyone with information about the incident is asked by DPD to contact Sergeant Dan Lynch at dlynch@danville.ca.gov.
