The Danville Planning Commission is set to vote on a proposed new ordinance that would update the town’s regulations on accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to reflect new state laws and the increasing appeal of adding smaller homes to the sites of existing houses.

The move comes following comments received by the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development identifying areas in which updates are required in order to comply with current state law.

Those updates include a more detailed definition of ministerial review, the implementation of a 60-day deadline for review, an allowance for ADUs to be sold or transferred separately from a primary residence in some cases, a reduced setback requirement, and clarification of a maximum 25-foot height requirement.

The Danville Planning Commission is set to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9). The agenda is available here.
