The Danville Town Council’s longest-tenured member is seeking an additional term in the office, with Newell Arnerich’s campaign announcement coming last week ahead of the upcoming November election in which three seats on the council are up for grabs.

Arnerich formally launched his campaign for an eighth term in the seat on Friday, having been first elected in 1995 and serving as the town’s mayor for seven different year-long terms during his tenure so far, the most recent being in 2023.

In his campaign announcement, Arnerich pledged that he would continue his focus on community policing, parks, planning and public works, as well as pointing toward his role in helping to maintain the town’s financial health following a balanced budget that was recently approved by council for the next fiscal year.

“I am proud to have been part of helping guide one of the best communities in California,” Arnerich told DanvilleSanRamon. “Danville is a place to raise our families, enjoy friends and live in safe community where our children can ride their bikes and walk to school. It is an honor to serve fellow residents in collective effort to make lives better.”

With a campaign centered on promising to continue his longtime work on the council and maintaining the same priorities, Arnerich’s announcement also highlighted his role in maintaining Danville’s reputation for a “small-town atmosphere and outstanding quality of life,” as well as public safety and open space. In particular, he said he would seek to maintain the amount of open space within the town limits, currently consisting of 43% open space.

Arnerich’s press release further points to his experience with maintaining economic stability in the town as well as improving conditions for small businesses, referencing the three national economic downturns he’s been in office for and his role in reducing vacancy rates in the historic downtown neighborhood, which was once at 40% in 1995.

Supporters of Arnerich’s reelection bid include his colleagues on the Town Council, as well as District 2 County Supervisor Candace Andersen, herself a former member of the town council from 2003 to 2012.
