This year’s race for three seats on the Danville Town Council includes a fresh face seeking his first term in office as longtime business owner and town volunteer Mark Belotz has announced his campaign alongside two incumbents.

Belotz boasts an extensive resume of volunteer service throughout the region, including on Danville’s Heritage Resource Commission, Design Review Board and Design Review Committee.
He’s also garnered support from sitting councilmembers, including Newell Arnerich and Renee Morgan, who announced their bids for reelection alongside Belotz at a campaign event on June 1.
“Mark Belotz is a dedicated community volunteer who selflessly shares his knowledge and experience to solve critical problems, improving lives in our community,” Arnerich said in an announcement Friday. “Mark is the right person at the right time to help lead Danville into the future for the next generation of leaders.”
Belotz is also supported by outgoing councilmember and current Vice Mayor David Fong, who also announced recently that he would not be seeking reelection following his current term on the council, which expires this year.
Fong’s decision not to run means that there are three seats up for grabs on the council in this year’s November election, making way for Belotz and other fresh faces in the race alongside the two incumbents running.
If Belotz prevails in the upcoming election, it would be his first elected position. However, according to his campaign announcement, he has already been in the habit of attending every council and commission meeting for the past six years, as well as having completed the Leadership San Ramon Valley, Danville Citizens Police Academy, and Government 101 Citizens Academy programs.
Belotz’s campaign priorities mirror those of Morgan’s and Arnerich’s, including fiscal responsibility, support for downtown businesses, public safety, Danville’s “small-town atmosphere and outstanding quality of life,” and preserving open spaces.
