The Board of Directors for the Dublin San Ramon Services District recently approved a new energy policy for the body that seeks to solidify efficiency and sustainability efforts in the district as part of its current strategic plan.
The new policy was adopted following an assessment that was included in DSRSD’s Energy Facility’s Master Plan. It consists of eight statements that will serve as guidelines and provide set goals for energy conservation and sustainability in the coming decades.
“It’s nice to see the Energy policy come to fruition,” DSRSD Board President Ann Marie Johnson said in an announcement on April 5. “Not only is adoption of this policy a major goal of the District’s Strategic Plan, but it also demonstrates DSRSD’s dedication to energy resiliency, conservation, and environmental stewardship.”
Under the new policy, DSRSD will seek to convert to 100% renewable fuel for its Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility by 2030, and seek to reduce electricity purchases by 25% plus reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2045.
In keeping with those goals, the district is set to move forward with the installation of solar facilities that include battery storage and electric vehicle charging functions on DSRSD properties, and energy reliability and resiliency upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant.
“These initiatives not only contribute to energy savings but also support the adoption of zero‐emission vehicles and bolster environmental sustainability efforts,” a DSRSD spokesperson said in last week’s announcement.
The policy was initially adopted by a unanimous vote at the board’s Feb. 20 meeting. The policy document is available at www.dsrsd.com.
