In honor of August being National Breastfeeding Month, Mothers’ Milk Bank California is partnering up with Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley to host a community milk drive in Pleasanton this Wednesday where eligible breastfeeding mothers can begin the screening process and donate frozen breast milk.
The event, according to the nonprofit milk bank, is part of a statewide effort to “provide lifesaving nutrition for premature and medically fragile babies”.
“National Breastfeeding Month is an opportunity to celebrate every breastfeeding journey and the community,” Jennifer Benito-Kowalski, president and CEO for Mothers’ Milk Bank California, said in a press release.Â
“When a mother donates her extra milk, she is doing more than nourishing a baby,” Benito-Kowalski added. “She is joining a community dedicated to giving medically fragile infants the healthiest possible start in life. We invite every eligible breastfeeding mother to attend one of our community milk drives this August and discover how to make a lifesaving difference.”
According to the statewide nonprofit milk bank, the event will take place in front of the main entrance of the Stanford Tri-Valley hospital, located at 5555 W. Las Positas Blvd. The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 5).
Families planning to attend can get a head start by completing a pre-screening process to “determine their eligibility to become a milk donor”.
“One human milk donor can provide lifesaving nutrition for dozens of premature and medically fragile babies,” the milk bank stated in a separate press release sent to the Weekly.
