In honor of the fast-approaching Valentine’s Day, Roving Reporter Stand Wharton went to the Danville library to ask residents about their favorite tale of romance. While Romeo and Juliet may be a tale for the ages, San Ramon Valley locals have many sweet stories about being struck by Cupid’s arrow.
Barbara Level, Mom: “Wuthering Heights”
is the most romantic novel I’ve read. The setting and the passionate characters are what makes this an endearing story.
Joan Kurtz, Museum volunteer: My favorite romantic story is meeting my future husband in kindergarten and continuing together all through elementary, junior high, high school and college, where I finally landed him. We’ve been married for 58 years.
Melisa Doyle, Dentist: My husband and I went together in college in Ohio. When he got out of school he returned to California while I continued my education back there. He talked me into visiting him once in California, and when I agreed and came, he gave me a beautiful crystal heart. So, when I graduated I went to California and married him.
Tod Burger, St. Mary’s MBA student: A novel by Richard Bach, “A Bridge Across Forever.” It’s an everlasting love story about a pilot and his wife. I’m a pilot, so I can relate. My wife, Karen, and I have been married 20 years as of last September.
Helen Li, Chinese school teacher: My parents have been married for 61 years. They met in China and fell in love and got married during the Communist revolution. They left the mainland and went to Taiwan. They raised five children during those years. They’re ordinary people who have maintained their romance during good times and bad. They’re always seen holding hands.
