The San Ramon Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair will be held this Saturday (Sept. 13) to educate the community on safety and preparation strategies in the event of an emergency.

The fair — which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Ramon Central Park and Community Center — will encourage families to learn about personal preparedness and gather ideas on how to create a home earthquake kit.

Events for children include a car seat checkpoint (where families can check the safety of their car seats), “stranger-danger” classes and Hug-A-Firefighter presentations.

Tours of the Family Fire Safety House, firetrucks and police cars will be offered throughout the event. Attendees will be given the opportunity to learn about CPR, AEDs and pet first aid as well as interact with vendors and agencies specializing in preparedness.

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District will be hosting a Jaws of Life demonstration, and the bomb squad and San Ramon police will be holding demonstrations as well.

Attendees will be given a free barbecue lunch, and the first 600 families who complete the preparedness Bingo game will receive an emergency supply gift.

The fair is a collaborative effort among the San Ramon Valley fire and school districts, the town of Danville, city of San Ramon and Contra Costa County.
