Assemblywoman Catharine Baker (R-San Ramon), whose district includes the San Ramon Valley, announced Tuesday that her bill to designate this Sunday (June 7, 2015) as California Cancer Survivors Day has passed off the State Assembly floor.
Assembly Concurrent Resolution 62 aims to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors by bringing awareness to the challenges that face survivors at the moment of diagnosis and sometimes persist for years following treatment, Baker said in a statement.
A cancer survivor herself, Baker said more people are overcoming the disease due to the many advances in cancer prevention, treatment and follow-up care.
“The fight against cancer is a challenge laden with physical, emotional and financial hardship,” Baker said in a statement. “As a cancer survivor myself, and daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I can say with certainty that these hardships are easier to overcome with the support of family and friends, encouragement from the community and fellowship with other survivors.”
“California Cancer Survivors Day is an opportunity for the community to join together to celebrate those who have survived and to provide inspiration for those recently diagnosed,” she added.

What a thoughtful and wonderful bill. There are millions of survivors and many go through the treatment and disease alone. There are support systems out there but if you are elderly or have other issues you may not know. This brings awareness to the public and to survivors of what services there areand what survivors can do to have a better quality of life. Thankyou Catharine Baker!
It has been a LONG time since I could say this, but I am proud of my elected representative in the state assembly. Thank you Catherine Baker, you are off to a wonderful start!
