The sixth annual Alamo Run, benefiting the Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center, is returning to downtown Alamo next weekend.
So far over 50 participants have signed up for the June 10 charity fun run through downtown Alamo. It will feature both a 5K and 10K course, with prizes and medals to be awarded to the fastest competitors.
The 5K course begins at the Rubey Building parking lot at the northwest corner of Danville Boulevard and Stone Valley Road. Runners will head north on Danville Boulevard to Hillgrade Avenue. At Hillgrade participants will turn west on the Iron Horse Regional Trail then continue south where the trail intersects with Stone Valley Road, and hit the finish line.
The 10K course follows the same route as the 5K, only competitors will have to run the route twice to complete the longer race.
If purchased prior to the race registration fees for children 12 and under is $25 and $30 on the day of. Ages 13 and over cost $35 to $40.
If deal seekers can convince three other family members, friends or strangers off the street to race, they can buy the family package for $100, and save some money. The family package is also available on race day for $120.
After registering all racers will receive a commemorative t-shirt and post-race refreshments, only a limited number of shirts are available so racers who have not already registered may not receive a shirt in their size.
Proceeds from the event benefit the various youth education programs of the Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center. Youth programs promoted by the center encourage tolerance, self-esteem and mutual respect among the Tri-Valley’s young people.
Medals will be presented to the fastest runners from the following ten age groups: 9 and under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80+.
Prizes will also be given out to the fastest dog and baby jogger to complete the course.
Last year Jordan Reyes, from Walnut Creek, finished with the fastest time, completing the 10K race in 37 minutes and 20.6 seconds.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at downtown Alamo, 3189 Danville Blvd., both the 5K and 10K races start at 8:30 a.m. The event is family friendly and welcomes all ages.
The Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center was founded in 1969 and encourages peaceful solutions to all conflicts while promoting justice and equality in the East Bay. It hosts and promotes various educational panels, forums, workshops and events geared toward the advancement of these goals.
