Stone Valley Middle School in Alamo will have a new principal starting the next school year.
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education announced at last week’s board meeting that Justin White, an assistant principal from San Ramon Valley High School, has been selected to take over the position effective July 1.
“Mr. White has a long history of excellence in educational leadership, developing a thriving community environment for students, staff and families, as well as quality teaching and learning. He will do an excellent job at guiding the Stone Valley community through the final stages of construction and into its exciting future,” Superintendent Rick Schmitt said in a message to parents.
Schmitt especially pointed to White’s leadership in culturally responsive teaching and technology teaching strategies.
White will be taking over the position left vacant by Jon Campopiano, who will be assuming a district post as the executive director of secondary schools. Campopiano served for three years as Stone Valley’s administrative head.
“Justin is an experienced and successful educator who will bring great value to Stone Valley. His enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment to kids will be very evident to all stakeholders,” he said of White.
Prior to working as an assistant principal at SRVHS this past school year, White worked five years as an assistant principal at Gale Ranch Middle School in San Ramon. During his tenure at Gale Ranch, the school was recognized as a Distinguished School, Blue Ribbon School and Gold Ribbon School by the California Department of Education.
“I am most looking forward to getting to know and work with our entire learning community at SVMS. I am accustomed to working in large schools and the fact that we have a smaller school excites me as it will allow me to support our students and staff in a more involved and in-depth way across the board,” White said after receiving the position.
White will be inheriting the school as it completes its modernization efforts — specifically, construction on a two-story classroom building, a new multipurpose room and a central quad area, all aimed at upgrading the school’s outdated facilities.
White said that he is looking forward to working with students in a smaller setting and cultivating a learning environment where students are not afraid to make mistakes. He is looking forward to the challenge of working with staff on encouraging students to go beyond their comfort levels in a safe learning environment.
Before joining SRVUSD, he taught physical education, history and English at Mae Hensley Junior High School in Ceres, from 2000 to 2012.
“My favorite subject in school was English,” White said. “I found that I had a passion for writing and developing my thinking on the written page prior to sharing it with others verbally.”
While there, he also worked as a resource teacher, learning director and athletic director.
White received a single subject credential in physical education, holds an administration credential as well as a master’s degree in education with a focus on administration.

Stone Valley Middle School is very lucky to have Mr. White!!! He was the VP at my girls middle school. They BOTH love him! He knows ALL the kids. He is kind and professional. We have missed him terribly. My youngest has said, “If Mr. White was still here, he would have helped me.” Or “Mr. White would never have let that happen.”
I miss him too. He was wonderful with parents too.
Please welcome him with open arms, you won’t regret it!
