San Ramon’s California High School will be seeing some leadership changes later this month, as current principal Sarah Cranford will be resigning from her position to take a county-level job.

For her replacement, district staff have recommended that Charlotte Wood Middle School’s principal Christopher George take over administrative duties.

San Ramon Valley Unified School District announced via social media that Cranford will be leaving her school this month for the Contra Costa County Office Of Education, where she will serve as the administrator of student programs. Her potential replacement’s ascension to the position is pending approval at the district’s school board meeting Tuesday evening.

“We want to thank Principal Cranford for her great work at Cal. She will be missed,” district staff said on a Facebook post. “Mr. George is currently the principal of Charlotte Wood Middle School where he has done an outstanding job creating a welcoming culture and climate focused on individual student achievement. Mr. George is viewed as an educational leader in our community.”

Cranford was selected as Cal High’s principal prior to the start of the 2014-15 school year after having served two years as the school’s assistant principal under then-principal Mark Corti.

Her proposed replacement, George, has a track record of consistency, having worked at two schools over the past 17 years. He has served as Charlotte Wood’s principal since 2010, and before that, he was assistant principal at Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon the nine years. George holds an administrative services credential and a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, Hayward.

Staff have recommended that Bridget Vorhees, assistant principal at Iron Horse Middle School, be selected as George’s replacement, to serve in an interim capacity for the remainder of the school year.

“We want to thank Mr. George for his years of service at Charlotte Wood Middle School. He has been a tremendous leader,” SRVUSD staff said. “While change can be difficult, we are committed to continuing, without interruption, the great work underway at Charlotte Wood. To that end, we are recommending to the Board the appointment of an interim principal for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year. We are recommending Bridget Vorhees, who currently serves as an AP for Iron Horse Middle School.”

Vorhees has worked at Iron Horse since 2012 and would become interim principal effective Sept. 19, pending board approval.

“We are confident that the CWMS community will find Ms. Vorhees an excellent interim principal. She is an accomplished leader and is excited by the prospect of joining the Charlotte Wood team,” staff added.

The board is expected to announce its decision at its regular meeting, Tuesday 5 p.m., 699 Old Orchard Drive, Danville.
