San Ramon’s Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center is the site of one of the swimming world’s most prestigious events, with the USA Synchro Masters Championship bringing more than 250 synchronized swimmers come to test their skills in four days of competitions.

Athletes aged 20 to 85 will compete in solo, duet, trio, team, combo and figure events from Thursday through Sunday.

California will be well-represented at the events, with seven of the 34 squads hailing from the Golden State, making the competition an international event several teams from Canada and Japan will be in attendance to challenge the home teams.

On Friday swim fans will have the rare opportunity to meet with two local Olympic and world champions in water polo. Four-time medalist Heather Petri and two-time recipient Nicolle Payne will be in attendance to meet with the audience to talk about their experiences and inspire athletes.

Friday’s swim will also host two retailers: athletic/fashion oriented retailer Jolyn and Fine Designs will have representatives present to sell athletic swimwear and customized event apparel respectively.

The U.S. senior national team will make a special appearance on Saturday to perform a specially prepared routine. Fans will have the opportunity to meet with team members and receive autographs from some of the best synchronized swimmers in the country.

Tickets are $8 a day or $25 for an all-event pass, children and students 17 and younger as well as sensors 66 and older can purchase day passes for $5 or an all event pass for $15. Competitions will be held at the Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center, 10550 Albion Road, Thursday through Sunday.
