The town of Danville is hosting Ramana Veiera to perform her interpretations of Portuguese Fado music at the Village Theatre and Art Gallery this weekend.
Veiera is a Northern California native of Portuguese descent, who creates her own version of Fado music — which is a genre of world music that originated from Portugal during the 19th century. She infuses the haunting laments of old world classics with innovative instrumentation, creative layers and vocals, theater officials said.
She is most known for playing her original composition, “Unido Para Amar,” at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Veiera was nominated for Best Fado Performance and Best World Music Performance at the International Portuguese Music Awards. She has recently been invited by Jim Costa to perform for the President of the Regional Government of Azores.
The Danville concert is going to be held on Saturday (Aug. 3) at 7:30 p.m., where admission will be $30. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre’s website or at 314-3400.
