Potential options for a future skate park will be the main topic of conversation during the Danville Town Council’s upcoming regular meeting, which will be held on Wednesday instead of Tuesday in order to not interfere with Election Day.

An ongoing discussion in the town, council members review a report on the potential development of a multi-use skate park at one of three preferred locations identified by town staff.

Using results from a community survey and input from a number of residents, town staff have identified Diablo Vista Park at 1000 Tassajara Ranch Drive, Osage Station Park at 816 Brookside Drive, and Sycamore Valley Park at 2101 Holbrook Drive as the top three location for the development of a skate park.

According to town staff, cost estimates for the project ranges from $1.6 million to

$1.9 million, which would need to be approved after placing the project on the council’s capital improvement program list.

The Danville Town Council is set to hold its regular meeting on a special day, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. in the Town Meeting Hall, 201 Front St. in Danville.

  1. This is something that is long past due. Kids that aren’t involved in organized sports have very limited options. Plenty of adults will use it also as demonstrated by those in neighboring communities.

  2. I can’t help but think there is SO much we could do with $1.9 million than put in a skate park that will only get graffiti painted all over it and bring in gangs, drugs and crime to the area, not to mention bring down property values. We have major potholes in the Tassajara Safeway parking lot that have been there for years now!

  3. 1) Dan is spot on.
    2) The Safeway parking lot is privately owned…not a city responsibility.
    3) What gangs? Gangs are going to swarm to the heart of Danville because there’s a skatepark? That’s a ridiculous statement. If you want a clear example of how wrong thinking that is just take a look at San Ramon’s skatepark. It’s clean, well used, and there aren’t roving bands of thugs doing drugs and robbing people.

  4. The San Ramon skate park has been in existence for awhile now and there have been no gang, graffiti, crime, etc. In fact, it is almost too popular, with kids complaining that there are too many people there. I have a teenager myself and he and his friends ask to be taken to the Pleasanton skate park!

Danville needs a skate park, as it gets the kids outside and active. Everyone complains about kids being glued to video games and their cell phones, so give them another option with the park. I only wish Danville could find space for a bike park as well.

  5. I totally agree OliviaLynn! They should just let the kids skate around the streets and sidewalks of Blackhawk instead, even set up wooden ramps and jump over the cars as they go by. Then the $1.9 million could be spent on a scientific study of the North American blue footed booby’s guano patterns.

  6. OliviaLynn I hope you are using a pseudonym and you aren’t truly that daft.
Your xenophobic remarks are so out of touch with the real world. People should be encouraged to pursue their hobbies not shamed…
