“The fabric of our County is woven with the cultures, languages, food, and traditions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities,” said Board Chair Supervisor John Gioia. “In the face of increased anti-Asian hate, we condemn any violence committed against AANHPI community members and stand in solidarity with our neighbors.”

The ceremony honoring cultures and traditions from across the Pacific region is set for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday (May 9), and will be available for streaming.

Danville business grants

The Town of Danville is set to offer new funding to small businesses following the Town Council’s approval of a “boost” business grant program on Tuesday (May 2).

The $200,000 approved for the program will go towards grants of up to $3,000 for small brick and mortar businesses in the town towards marketing, promotion, events, and capital and customer experience improvements.

“We are continuing to support our local small businesses in ways that are in tune with operational needs,” Director of Economic Development Jill Bergman. “For instance, business owners may be looking at ways to improve their façade or exterior lighting and displays, or upgrade their point-of-sale system and website. This grant allows for those wish-list items to become reality.”

Applications are now open, with grant funds set to be distributed within 30 days following approval. As of Thursday (May 4) an update on the program’s website noted that the processing of applications could be delayed given the large quantity that had already poured in.
