Youth heart screening
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District and the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation are seeking to spread the word about a heart screening event this weekend for young people between the ages of 12 and 25.
The event itself is also aimed at shedding light on the importance of heart health for young people “especially when there may be no warning signs.”
Screening is set to be available for $10 at San Ramon Valley High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 3). More information is available here.
Belmont Village portraits
Belmont Village is publicizing a series of portraits taken recently of couples and veterans during a multi-day session with photographer Thomas Sanders.
Belmont Village Senior Living San Ramon kicked off a multi-day portrait session earlier this week with nationally recognized photographer Thomas Sanders, whose work was featured in the 2010 book “The Last Good War: The Faces and Voices of WWII and American Heroes.”
“The visit is part of Belmont Village’s nationwide American Heroes: Portraits of Service initiative,” Belmont Village staff said in a press release Tuesday.
“Launched in 2015 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, the national project honors the service of hundreds of senior veterans living in Belmont Village communities across the country,” they continued. “The iconic portraits created during today’s shoots will be installed in a permanent honor gallery within the San Ramon community to preserve their legacies for generations to come.”
Belmont Village residents featured in the portraits include U.S. Navy veterans David York, Joe Jimenez, and Steve Artus.

Officials noted that the city will not be providing down payment assistance.

Seats are available on the town’s planning, heritage resource, and parks, recreation, and arts commissions, as well as the design review board and the Contra Costa County Mosquito and Vector Control District.
