The San Ramon Planning Commission is poised to vote on the final version of proposed updates to the city’s objective design and development standards for housing and mixed-use projects Tuesday evening.

The move comes following a review and feedback to city staff on a draft update in August, which was also pending the incorporation of feedback from the city’s Architectural Review Board.

Following changes to state law aimed at removing obstacles in the development of affordable housing in recent years, municipalities are required to review development applications based on their conformity to their established standards, rather than the subjective preferences of their commissioners and councilmembers.

During their last discussion on the topic on Aug. 20, planning commissioners were “supportive of the draft” according to a staff report prepared for the upcoming meeting, and felt that the draft standards themselves functioned to support “the city’s housing plan and goals”.

If the Planning Commission approves the draft, it will be recommended for adoption by the City Council and up for a vote at its Nov. 12 meeting.

The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The agenda is available here.

In other business, commissioners are set to hear an update on the city’s Climate Action Plan by associate planner Ryan Driscoll.
