The City of San Ramon has announced the departure of its community development director and the appointment of her successor, with the change going into effect this month.
Lauren Barr was appointed as the city’s next director of community development after more than 18 years with the department, where he has served as planning division manager since 2017. He is taking the reins from Debbie Chamberlain, who is retiring effective this month according to the city’s announcement Wednesday.
“San Ramon is a wonderful City, with engaged residents, a responsive business community, and has an exceptional and dedicated City staff that works hard to further the values, vision, and quality of life for the community,” Barr said in Wednesday’s announcement. “I look forward to continuing to serve the community and do my part to help address the current and future needs of the City.”
Barr has spent a majority of his 25+-year planning career in San Ramon, where he has worked his way up the ranks to be a key figure in the city’s planning division since coming on board as a senior planner in 2007. Prior to that, he worked for the City of Laguna Woods in multiple positions, including as its community development director.
“We are fortunate to have someone as deeply experienced in community development as Lauren,” City Manager Steven Spedowfski said Wednesday. ”He has been a valuable part of San Ramon’s Community Development Department for many years, and we look forward to his continued contributions to the City.”
