The San Ramon City Council is set to finalize one of the last steps before the city’s new police chief takes the reins starting later this month.
The council is scheduled to administer an oath of office to incoming SRPD chief Becky Chestnut at its next regular meeting.
That’s the main item of business at the upcoming council meeting, in which no other agenda items are listed outside of those that are routine in nature and typically passed with a single vote as part of the consent calendar.
Nonetheless, the oath is an important next step for Chestnut – who is set to take over the position from outgoing chief Denton Carlson starting Dec. 15.
Chestnut is coming into the position after 10 years with SRPD, currently serving as a captain with the department since 2023.
The city announced Chestnut’s appointment last month, following Carlson’s retirement announcement in September.
The San Ramon City Council is set to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 9). The agenda is available here.
