There was a lot of volleyball for the Foothill High boys’ varsity last week, as the Falcons had two non-league matches as well as a tournament.
The Falcons started the week off by beating James Logan 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.
Highlights came from Cameron Hitchan (13 kills, 2 blocks), Dean Caudill (13 kills, 14 digs), Caleb Lai (7 digs, 4 service points) and Josh Salonga (37 assists, 10 service points).
Next up the Falcons dropped a tough match, falling to Liberty, 25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 24-26.
This time the highlights came from Hitchan (9 kills, 2 blocks), Jeremy Sun (8 digs, 7 kills), Tyler Hill (4 kills, 4 service points) and Thomas Paduraru (5 kills, 2 blocks).
In the loaded Sanger Slam tournament, 32 teams took to the court to battle for the title.
Foothill advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to De La Salle by a 25-18, 19-25, 19-21 match.
The wins came against Madera South (2-0), Arroyo Grande (2-0) and Folsom (2-0). They lost to Clovis East in pool play by a 2-1 final, then North Clovis in the 5th/6th match, 2-0.
That left the Falcons 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the East Bay Athletic League.
Amador boys’ basketball
The Dons’ season ended with a 59-47 loss to Clayton Valley in the North Coast Section playoffs.
Jaylen Smith had 10 points to lead the Dons, with Cade Krueger adding nine and Kasen Krueger scoring seven.
Out with winter, in with spring!
As the final lights are about to go out on the winter sports season over the next couple weeks, the glaring chaos that is the spring season is about to hit full stride.
And that means it’s time to start sending in those results each week.
Before we get into what to do for spring, I need to get a shout out for Scott McMillin. An Amador boys’ basketball parent, McMillin sent in the results for the Dons for every single game this season. He took a picture of the scorebook after every game and sent it in.
Every game — win or lose. It was that easy, but then again it was only team in the winter I got the results in consistently. There were some that chose to send in results only when their team won, and of course some that chose not to send in any at all.
And as usual, we get called out for not covering a respective sport (girls’ wrestling in this case), when the truth is we don’t cover any sport.
The only results we get in the paper are the ones we get submitted by the respective teams. If someone associated with the team does not make the effort to recognize the hard-working athletes, the sport becomes a tree falling in the forest to us — you don’t notice.
It’s why I hammer you over your head with pleas to turn in results. So, we can get these kids some credit in print! Help me be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
In the time it takes to write a letter, you could have turned in some results and got the kids the credit they deserve.
Last spring we had the best season I have seen, as a number of sports had results turned in regularly. Foothill volleyball coach Dusty Collins has been as good as it gets turning the Falcons volleyball stats.
So here is the first official shoutout for help. I am just one person and there is a load of spring sports!
Here is my contact information again (acesmag@aol.com) so you can email me — Sunday by noon of each week is the deadline for the previous week’s sports.
You don’t have to wait until Sunday as you can send info in during the week, and I will save it. If you are willing to help this year, contact me and I will help you set up the easiest plan for the season.
Help me get our athletes the coverage they deserve!
