I consider Donald Trump a pompous blowhard with bad hair, but he is right about securing our borders from illegal immigration. Where he’s wrong, and often is, is only considering the southern border with Central America.
In the first place, not all of the people coming into the USA from Central and South America are Mexican. There are a lot of different countries down there, but The Donald is geographically challenged. Just because someone speaks Spanish and wears a sombrero (which means hat, and I wear one too), doesn’t mean he’s Mexican. I’m not all that knowledgeable about Central American and South American geography, but I know there’s more than one country down there and people come here from most of them – some legally, but many not.
Donald doesn’t seem to be too concerned about many of the other possible points of entry for undocumented immigrants to sneak into the USA. How about protecting our northern border, that long one with Canada.
Oh I can hear you snickering about protecting us from illegal Canadians. Well don’t be too smug. Two of the 911 terrorists came into Maine from Canada, took a commuter flight from Portland to Boston, and hijacked the plane from Boston possibly intending to crash into the White House, but passengers fought back and it crashed in Pennsylvania.
And how about our coastline? How many sailors, passengers, stowaways, jump ship and swim, row, or otherwise find their way onto our shores. Lots of illegals come in from Cuba to Florida, but those are “good” Hispanics, because they are escaping Communist oppression instead of just any other kind of oppression.
This whole business of securing our borders is very difficult, probably impossible. More should be done but just keeping those blankety-blank Mexicans out, even though some “are good people,” might appeal to simplistic racists, but Donald Trump should never be President and I’m glad Macy’s kicked him out.

I agree, regarding the wild hair piece or lack there of.
America has had a problem with its borders ever since Peking Man crossed the Bearing Strait thirty thousand years ago.
How about the tour companies that fly in the expecting Mom’s and having their babies born citizens In the USA? Seen the advertisements myself when I was visiting overseas. Put a shutdown to that!!!

Do illegals have rights…yup!
In my humble opinion, there are more than 30 million + “illegals” already here!
WELCOME TO THE USA! VIVA!
Dear Ms. Rogoff,
Your words refocused the reality that too simple discussion of our borders, and one in particular, does not plan a real resolution.
Nice work!

Please explain what is meant by “real resolution”. Thank you.
Well, I believe that “real solution” must have something to do with the Realer McCoy.
Roz, you are spot on about securing all of the border areas as other countries do, even Mexico. But it’s obvious that the southern border is the where the trainloads are coming in, that’s why Trump focused his comments on that border, and not Canada. And I and apparently 45,000 others to date have run their Macy’s cards through the shredder. You seem to be reporting just like the left wing media by purposely misinterpreting his statements. You know very well he stated that his words did not apply to all Mexicans and that he has a large business association with Mexico. So be a REAL journalist, report the facts and not your biased opinions !
Mr. Trump does not speak with forked tongue, what he said is true, don’t put words in his mouth, he did not say “all”. If you like political correctness vote for Kamela Harris, Gavin Newsome, and support sheriff Merkerime (sp?), all of which support the sancturary city policy in S.F. The woman from Pleasanton recently shot in S.F. by the illegal alien felon (deported 5 times) would still be alive if it weren’t for their policies. It is time to wake up from your liberal political correctness, that however, takes critical thinking skills.

Hotslide,
I can see why you are a supporter of Mr. Trump. You cannot tell the difference between a blogger who writes opinions and a reporter who reports the news.
You also appear to believe that “Trainloads” of illegals are coming in from Mexico. You might want to see the documentary film “Which Way Home,” which covers this subject http://www.refugees.org/refugee-voices/migrant-children/which-way-home-documentary-on.html
There are many more undocumented immigrants, the correct name for someone here unofficially, who enter this country legally but overstay their Visas. Fifty years ago my Grandmother had a caretaker from Jamaica who came over on a short term Visa and stayed because there was more work here than in Jamaica.
That’s why so many immigrants who come here on student Visas or tourist Visas simply decide to stay. It’s easy. There is still no Federal agency that keeps track of all of the undocumented immigrants here on expired Visas. Their numbers are probably greater than all of the Mexican or Central American “wetbacks.”
Ronald Reagan was the first President to offer amnesty to most of the long term undocumented immigrants here. That policy worked very well at the time. Now that President Obama is proposing the same thing, conservatives are against it.

Longtime Resident,
Critical Thinking vs. Political Correctness, hmmm? I teach Critical Thinking and your rant above would not qualify as it.
Critical thinking requires logic and analytical abilities and not knee-jerk political reactions. It appears that if you disagree with someone on one issue, you automatically stereotype them as being part of a group with positions you disagree with on other issues.
I wrote a blog on Kathryn Steinle’s murder, saying exactly the same things you are saying. It was titled “Not a good week.” You are posting your comment in the wrong blog. http://www.pleasantonweekly.com/blogs/p/2015/07/10/not-a-good-week
Roz
If you teach critical thinking, that is really a concern for the unsophisticated trusting student.
Cholo,
Excellent link. I read only the first part of it, but it takes a different perspective from most of the pro or con articles out there on Trump now.
Readers here are assuming that my blog is about Trump, but it is about the ease with which immigrants can enter this country and remain undocumented. Even those who claim to use critical thinking seemed to have missed that point.
I have to grade assignments tonight. I’m teaching an Arts class this week. It is a nice change of pace.

Ms. Rogoff, you’re hardly anyone to be commenting on someone’s looks.

Correction: That’s why I appreciate a guy like Senator Rand Paul! HOORAY! VIVA Senator PAUL! VIVA!
