That’s the sign I plan to put at the front of the walkway to my house on Halloween. Last year my Halloween was ruined by a nosey lady who insisted I come out of the house to “rescue” a neighbor’s dog that got out of his yard.

The dog didn’t need rescuing. He was in front of the gate to the back yard instead of behind it, but not going anywhere. The neighbor was home. He let the dog back into the yard. Meanwhile I was out of the house just when Trick-or-Treaters were coming and had to yell to them I wasn’t there.

It ruined my Halloween last year and so I won’t participate in it this year. I know I’m being a spoil sport, but I’m too old for Halloween anyway. I’m tired and grumpy, and done with it, but I might change my mind by the time the 31st rolls around.

The neighbor’s dog died from bloat a few months ago. I don’t talk to them much, but his wife told me he’s very broken up about. I would be too. I had a dog die from bloat many years ago. I was away for a day and when I came home, the poor little dog, a Doxie, was lying in the back yard. I know those dogs can get bloat, but I didn’t expect it after one day.

I don’t have dogs anymore. No more Dachshunds or mutts or any other kind of dog. At one time I had six Dachshunds but now I have four cats. Cats are easier to leave for a day or two. The only problem with my cats, is one of them is a bully and she chases one of the other cats around to show her superiority. Who says cats are not like people? I know people who act that way too.

You can learn a lot about people by watching animals. After all we are “animals” too. We are not as superior as we think we are. I’m sure I’ll get some comments about that.

  2. I had a cat once and I also had a bird but not at the same time. The bird was better company but he flew away. The cat died or rather, he was put to sleep. I’m not sure it it was the right thing to do, I never learned to communicate with the cat though I did know when he was hungry. I never let him outside either, because I thought he might leave me like the bird had done. Still, he is gone anyway. I thought about getting another cat from the rescue center so I kept his carrier and toys and most of his food. I never got another cat and I think the food is bad after all these years but I can’t bring myself to throw it out . Someday, I may have another pet but I don’t think it will be a cat. Maybe a fish.

  3. Poor cat. Was he sick or did you just not want him? I had a black cat put to sleep, but I should have done it sooner. He was such a sweet cat but in a lot of pain.
