The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors has announced the students who will be recognized in the county’s Youth Hall of Fame awards as part of its César E. Chávez Commemorative Celebration, with five San Ramon Valley students being among the awardees.
The celebration and Youth Hall of Fame awards, now in its 30th year, will see local students recognized for five out of the eight titles the awards consist of – three out of the six high school awards as well as both Rising Star awards for middle school students.
Monte Vista High School student Neil Chaundran is set to be recognized for teamwork, with California High School student Nitya Varanasi being recognized with the Good Samaritan award and Dougherty Valley High School student Aditya Narayan being recognized for perseverance.
Gale Ranch Middle School student Samhita Chikoti was named the winner of the Volunteerism Rising Star award, with Windermere Ranch Middle School student Dhruv Subramanian earning the Leadership and Civic Engagement Rising Star award.
The eight winning students from across the county will be recognized at the board of supervisors’ upcoming César E. Chávez Commemorative Celebration, with this year’s theme being Perseverance and Progress.
Fernando Sandoval, Ward 5 trustee for the Contra Costa Community College District, will serve as the keynote speaker, discussing his military career in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and his 2019 memoir “From Tortilla Chips to Computer Chips.”
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 26 in the board chambers at 1025 Escobar St. in Martinez. It will be broadcast live via Contra Costa Television and on the county’s website.
