The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to consider approving plans for a new public park in Bishop Ranch that would be adjacent to other new developments in the area and seek to bring to life visions outlined by the city and developers as part of the CityWalk Master Plan.
The 1.4-acre park is being proposed for a currently undeveloped portion of land in Bishop Ranch 1A, which is one of three different sites in that section of Bishop Ranch. It would be bordered by the Belmont Village senior care facility to the east, existing office and parking to the south, and a proposed 383-unit apartment project to the north.
The proposed park space is meant to flesh out the vision of the South Parkway Green in the CityWalk plan and a key public walking space aimed at connecting new developments in Bishop Ranch for pedestrians as part of a larger system of trails and public spaces outlined in the plan for a walkable downtown neighborhood.
Design and construction of public parks is generally initiated by the city, but the proposed park on the table for the upcoming meeting is on private property owned by Sunset Development Company, making it subject to the private property entitlement process and review by the Planning Commission.
The plans on the table for the Planning Commission are revised following feedback on the project from the Parks and Community Services Commission, which reviewed the proposed plans last month, as well as the Architectural Review Board.
“The Applicant’s vision for the park is to provide a community amenity and provide residents and visitors a place with opportunities for exercise, play, quiet contemplation and social gatherings with neighbors, friends and family,” division manager Lauren Barr wrote in a staff report prepared for the upcoming meeting.
Staff are recommending that the Planning Commission vote to approve the development plan application pending any feedback or suggestions that arise during a public hearing and the commission’s deliberation this week.
The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 19). The agenda is available here.
