Music in the Park

The Town of Danville is concluding its Music in the Park series this weekend, with Maroon 5 tribute band Maroon Vibes set to take to the outdoor stage for the final performance of the season.

The free show is set for 6 p.m. Saturday (August 2) on the Town Green outside the Danville Community Center at 420 Front St.

With the event expected to draw high pedestrian traffic, the town has issued an advisory that Front Street between the Village Theatre parking lot and the Library and Community Center parking lot will be closed between 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

DeSaulnier town hall

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is hosting his next town hall event alongside Attorney General Rob Bonta about state officials’ clashes with the presidential administration in recent months.

“When President Trump was sworn into office in January, he immediately began enacting unconstitutional policies that harm Californians and the rest of the nation,” DeSaulnier said in an announcement July 25. “The State of California, led by Attorney General Rob Bonta, has been on the front lines of the fight against these concerning policies, including by filing more than 30 lawsuits.”

The virtual event is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 5). Registration is available here.

John Muir Health ranking

Officials with John Muir Health have announced another year of high marks for both its Concord and Walnut Creek hospitals in the most recent US News ranking, with both earning Best Regional Hospital designations.

The two hospitals were also ranked in the top three Bay Area hospitals for the ninth year in a row, and top 15 hospitals throughout the state (with Concord at number 14 and Walnut Creek at number 15).

“Our physicians, advanced practice practitioners, nurses, and clinical and support staff take great pride in these rankings that validate the talent, skills, empathy and teamwork they demonstrate every day,” said Mike Thomas, president and Chief Executive Officer at John Muir Health in a July 29 statement. “Year after year, we have been ranked among the best hospitals in the San Francisco Metro Area, state and regionally, which reflects the exceptional level of care available to patients in the communities we serve and beyond.”

Nationally, the Walnut Creek center was ranked number 41 for its OB-GYN care, with the Concord center earning national rankings for gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, and pulmonology and lung surgery.

“For most Americans, health care decisions are made close to home. The Best Regional Hospitals rankings underscore the difference high-performing local medical centers make,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News in the July 29 announcement. “These local hospital rankings, entirely performance-driven, equip individuals and their families, in consultation with their medical providers, to choose the highest quality care available in their own communities.”
