“Illumination” exhibit
The city of San Ramon is set to showcase works from its residents in this spring’s juried art exhibit, which makes its public debut Friday evening.
The annual display of works from local artists is one factor that distinguishes the city’s spring juried art exhibit – open only to artists living in San Ramon – from its fall exhibits, which feature works from artists throughout the country.
This year’s spring exhibit theme is “Illumination,” aimed at “exploring the concept of light – both as a physical phenomenon and as a symbol of clarity, transformation, and revelation,” according to the call for artists earlier this year.
The exhibit is set to be on display at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center until May 27, kicking off with a public reception on its opening night Friday (May 8) from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. that features music, snacks and the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award. The event is free and open to the public.
Connector closure
Caltrans will be closing down the southbound Interstate 680 to eastbound Interstate 580 connector overnight this Sunday for emergency repair work.
The closure, which will last from 9 p.m. on Sunday (May 10) to 5 a.m. the next day, will allow the state agency to perform “joint repairs at the I‑680/I‑580 separation”, Caltrans stated in a press release.
“To safely complete this work, the southbound I‑680 to eastbound I‑580 connector and an adjacent lane are scheduled to be closed overnight,” the agency stated. “Caltrans thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as we continue to improve California’s transportation network.”
Detour signs will be posted so that drivers know where to go to avoid the closure.
“At the Plaza” series
The town of Danville is seeking to continue its efforts to bring new life to Prospect Park Plaza following the departure of a popular Starbucks Reserve location last year and a fire that tore through neighboring businesses weeks later.
Since then, the town has made use of the site as a new entertainment venue, featuring a range of performances and activities over the months – most recently, Danville’s annual Star Wars celebration on May 4.
The next installments of the “At the Plaza” series on the docket are a floral-themed crafts party Tuesday (May 12), followed by live music from James Patrick Regan on May 23, both from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
National Pizza Party Day
Danville is inviting adults over the age of 55 to celebrate National Pizza Party Day at the Oak Hill Park Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 15. Registration is available here.
