Welcoming back the “Selected Shorts” theatrical story-reading series in the new year, Livermore Valley Arts last week unveiled the two headliners for the upcoming performance.

Emmy Award nominee Wendie Malick and television actress Richa Moorjani, who hails from the Bay Area, will take to the Bankhead Theater stage on Feb. 2 for an afternoon of “literature in performance” and bringing short stories to life like the public radio show and podcast presentations of the same name, according to LVA.

With a theme of “Better Together” for the Livermore show, the live theatrical experience will center on “connected through the theme of belonging, celebrating the power of togetherness with classic and contemporary short fiction featuring characters that push one another to unexpected conclusions, stories that emphasize what happens in moments of great cooperation, competing desires and unexpected encounters,” LVA officials said.

“Transporting us through the magic of fiction, one short story at a time, this ‘story time for adults’ presents spellbinding narratives by both established and emerging writers that take on new life when they are performed by the stars of stage and screen,” they added.

The matinee will feature Malick, best known for her work on sitcoms such as “Just Shoot Me! (for which she earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations), “Hot in Cleveland” and her current role on the reboot of “Night Court”. Joining her in Livermore will be Moorjani, a Saratoga High School graduate and rising TV actress in Hollywood who gained prominence on “Never Have I Ever” and “Fargo”.

The Bankhead is looking to build on the momentum of last season’s “Selected Shorts” show, which brought actors Tony Hale (“Veep”), Jane Kaczmarek (“Malcolm in the Middle”) and Mara Wilson (“Matilda”).

The upcoming installment is set for 3 p.m. Feb. 2. For tickets and more information, go to livermorearts.org.
