Those who haven’t yet visited Downtown Danville’s Isola Osteria since its debut early last year have just two days left to do so, with the family-owned Sicilian restaurant shuttering its local outpost this weekend.

While its sister restaurant in Berkeley is set to remain open, the owners announced earlier this month that the Danville restaurant’s last day of operation would be Aug. 30 – and that it was “not an easy decision.”

“As some of you may know, our family has been facing serious health challenges,” Owner Angelo Dalo said on Instagram Aug. 10. “After much reflection, we’ve come to realize that the most important thing we can do right now is to step away and focus fully on spending time together.”

“Family has always been at the heart of everything we do—our food, our traditions, and the love we pour into every dish,” he continued. “Now, we must live out that same spirit by being present for the moments that matter most.”

Dalo told DanvilleSanRamon that his parents were both ill, and that taking care of them while managing multiple restaurants was proving to be unsustainable for him.

“We’re not too happy about it,” Dalo said. “And we didn’t want to because it’s very profitable, but time is more important to us now.”

Dalo said he hoped to see the restaurant’s local fans in the future at his other restaurant in Berkeley, Agrodolce Osteria, and that it “continues to thrive.”

“Taking care of my parents and focusing on one restaurant now is my future,” Dalo said.

  1. Isola Osteria was one of my favorite restaurants in Danville. It’s Sicilian flair meant a lot to me, as someone who is half Italian & half Sicilian. Hats off to Angelo for a job well done and a good decision to take care of his parents. You can’t get these moments back!
