The Danville Town Council is set to discuss preparations and details for this year’s Design Awards in a morning study session Tuesday, as well as nominations for the four categories.

Councilmembers will review the 12 nominations in four categories – consisting of Outstanding New Residential Neighborhood Design, Outstanding Custom Home Design, Outstanding Commercial Remodel Design, and Outstanding Historic Renovation and Redevelopment Design – and consider recommended winners from the town’s Design Review Board.

The council was asked to review the nominations and evaluate them according to the awards’ judging criteria on a scale of one to 10.

The nominated projects are set to be assessed for criteria under seven different scoring categories, consisting of project configuration and layout, their “fitting into the fabric of the community,” colors, materials and lighting, degree of innovation, landscaping and entries, exterior finishes, and their use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, or green building techniques.

The Outstanding New Residential Neighborhood Design category has five nominees – 80-88 Rivers Lane, 134 El Dorado Ave., Edendale at the Southeast corner of Camino Tassajara and Sherburne Hills Road., 80-89 Hackler Court, and 100-130 Julia Loop – with the Rivers Lane project and 134 El Dorado Ave. being the Design Review Board’s picks.

The two nominations for Outstanding Custom Home Design are the Mann Residence at 66 Sherburne Hills Road. and the Haramoglis Residence at 372 Cordell Dr., with the latter being the Design Review Board’s recommendation.

Nominations for Outstanding Commercial Remodel Design consist of Taco Bell at 444 Front St., the I Can Do That! Performing Arts Center at 194 Diablo Road., the shopping center at 200 Hartz Ave., and the Fazzio/Fischer House at 344 Railroad Ave. The Design Review Board recommendations are the performing arts center and 200 Hartz Ave.

The Outstanding Historic Renovation and Redevelopment Design has just one nomination –  the Jewelers Building at 375 Hartz Ave. – which is recommended by the Design Review Board for that award.

The winning projects are set to be recognized at the council’s regular meeting on March 19.

The Danville Town Council is scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 13) for their study session on the awards. The agenda is available here.
