Organizers with the City of San Ramon and the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce are preparing for this year’s State of the City luncheon at the end of the month, with Mayor Dave Hudson set to address the community.

Chamber president Heidi Kenniston-Lee said that while this year’s event is the first she’s organized in her current position, she has been in attendance for numerous states of the city in years past as a longtime parks commissioner prior to her appointment to the head of the chamber last year.
“From a chamber perspective, I think the neat thing is that we have this new tagline called ‘Connecting for Success’ and it’s really connecting on tons of different levels, and one of the ways is connecting folks with our thought leaders and decision-makers,” Kenniston-Lee said. “It’s definitely trying to accomplish that goal of connecting for success.”
In addition to being the first state of the city event with Kenniston-Lee at the helm of the chamber rather than in her former capacity on the parks commission, it’s the first in Hudson’s current two-year term as mayor in which he will return with a speech as the keynote of the event. Former vice mayor Mark Armstrong led the discussion at last year’s event amid a months-long absence by Hudson at the start of the year while facing medical challenges.
While she lauded Armstrong’s delivery of last year’s address, Kenniston-Lee emphasized the value of Hudson’s long tenure as a city official and his perspective on the city and its connection to the larger region and state.
“The neat thing about Dave is that he’s literally got decades of service and knowledge and experience,” Kenniston-Lee said. “He’s a wealth of information, and that’s what makes him excellent to address at the event.”
Kenniston-Lee said that in addition to highlighting the successes and challenges facing the city, she expects Hudson to also discuss state legislation impacting the city and its connections to surrounding communities.Â
In addition to serving as a platform for Hudson to address the community, Kenniston-Lee said that the goal of the event — particularly this year under her leadership in the chamber — was to facilitate connections and bring together people from sectors throughout the city, as well as serving as an example of the chamber’s close ties with the city.
“It’s a really good example of the positive and productive partnership we have with the City of San Ramon,” Kenniston-Lee said. “We have really excellent communication and collaboration, and so that to me is really rewarding because it’s so positive and productive.”
The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the San Ramon Marriott at 2600 Bishop Drive. Starting Thursday (Feb. 22), those interested in attending will need to register by calling the chamber at 925-242-0600.Â
