The Danville Town Council is set to discuss appointments to the town’s recently formed Bicycle Advisory Commission as well as the overall status of the body as it enters its second year.
With half of the six current commissioners in terms that expire, the council is currently recruiting three new members for the commission for terms starting July 1. The commission was established in 2022 as part of the town’s Bicycle Master Plan, which was adopted in 2021.
Councilmembers are set to discuss its current status as well as the recruitment process for new commissioners as part of a study session this week, with a majority of the council having requested the discussion at their most recent meeting on April 2.
The council is set to direct staff on whether or not to bring the matter to an agenda at a future meeting as part of the upcoming informational discussion.

In other business
*Councilmembers are set to discuss three proposed amendments to the town’s municipal code regarding traffic regulations and short-term rental zoning.
With recent state legislation prohibiting local municipalities from enforcing “anti-cruise” laws, town staff are recommending that the municipal code be updated to remove a cruising prohibition in the downtown area, which was adopted in 1985 but has not been enforced.
Staff also recommend removing a section of the municipal code prohibiting U-turns and parking in front of Los Cerros Middle School that was adopted in 1990, prior to the opening of Weber Lane.
Following changes to zoning ordinances last year, town staff recently learned that language prohibiting short-term rentals that was adopted as part of a 2016 ordinance was left out. They are recommending that the council consider establishing and adopting an ordinance that would re-establish the prohibition of short-term rentals in all residential zones in the town.Â
*Councilmembers are set to discuss whether or not to continue with current gifts presented as awards at milestones for those with certain amounts of time serving the town, which are part of the annual Mayor’s Installation and Community Awards Ceremony, and whether or not to change what items are given when.
*Following the establishment of a Youth Poet Laureate in the town in 2022, town officials learned several months ago that the title is trademarked by the nonprofit poetry organization Urban World NYC.Â
