The San Ramon City Council is poised for a special meeting Tuesday to consider making further changes to its rules and procedures on public hearings after voting to approve other proposed changes last week, most notably the start time for regular meetings.

City staff is set to present options for changes to guidelines on order and decorum, voting, and addressing the council as potential additions to the previous updates, and as updated Brown Act requirements for remote public meeting access are poised to go into effect July 1.

“The primary goal of this presentation will be to review the rules of conduct and explore ways to improve the efficiency of meetings by managing communications between Council and the public, between Councilmembers, and by limiting and minimizing disruptions by members of the public,” City Attorney Martin Lysons wrote in a staff report for the June 30 meeting.

Lysons is set to provide an overview of the applicable portions of the Brown Act and Roberts Rules of Order, as well as the city’s existing guidelines on conduct at public meetings, with the council set to decide whether or not to pursue additional changes.

The upcoming special meeting is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday (June 30). The agenda is available here.
