Pleasanton’s Cultural Celebration Series is returning next month with a list of events and activities throughout the next year that aims to bring residents and community members together to commemorate diversity and cultures from around the world.
Hosted by the city’s Library and Recreation Department, the 2026-27 series of free, family-friendly events honors different cultures, traditions and histories through live performances, storytelling and hands-on activities. They will also help bring people of all backgrounds together so they can learn about and appreciate all of these different cultures that make up Pleasanton.
“Community involvement is a key part of the Cultural Celebration Series, with many events shaped in partnership with cultural organizations and community members and sponsored in part by the Friends of the Pleasanton Library,” Rachel Prater, recreation manager for the city of Pleasanton, said in a press release. “These collaborations help ensure the series remains inclusive, representative, and community-driven.”
The 2026-27 Cultural Celebration Series is set to kick off with a Diwali Celebration on Oct. 17. The event, which takes place from 1-3 p.m. at the Pleasanton Senior Center, will feature music, dance and other cultural activities traditional to the Indian Festival of Lights.
Next is the DÃa de Los Muertos, which takes place Nov. 7 from 1-3 p.m. at the Pleasanton Senior Center. The celebration will honor loved ones who have died by featuring traditional altars, storytelling, crafts and other activities rooted in Mexican heritage, according to the city.
Then, on Nov. 14, members of the community will be invited to celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Alviso Adobe Community Park. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees will be able to learn about the history, culture and traditions of Native American communities.
Following Native American Heritage Month, the city will be hosting a Lunar New Year celebration on Jan. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lions Wayside Park. The cultural celebration event will feature “outdoor performances, storytelling, crafts, and interactive activities celebrating cultural traditions observed across Asia and beyond”.
Almost a month later, the city will celebrate Black History Month at the Pleasanton Public Library by honoring the “history, culture and contributions of African Americans through music, storytelling and activities designed for all ages”. This event is scheduled for Feb. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The last installment of the 2026-27 service will be the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration, which is set to take place May 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lions Wayside Park.
“The outdoor event will feature live performances, art, hands-on crafts, and interactive experiences highlighting a wide range of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander cultural traditions,” the city stated in its press release.
In addition to attending the events, the city of Pleasanton is also encouraging residents of all ages to volunteer, support or participate in any of the upcoming performances and events.
Mariana Vega, a volunteer who helped organize events like the Cultural Celebration Series, said doing so not only helped her learn more about event planning, but it also made her connect with her community in a more meaningful way.
“Being a part of these events made me realize I have a strength in planning and helped me discover new skills simply by interacting with other volunteers,” Vega said in the city’s press release. “It was really rewarding to be part of a team that brings people together and helps keep the City of Pleasanton vibrant, inclusive and caring!”
All of the 2026-27 series events are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
