A former bishop with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who led a youth group in Livermore is in custody today on numerous charges of child sexual assault and abuse involving multiple victims in Livermore over the course of a decade.
Michael Morris remains in custody as of Thursday afternoon on $920,000 bail after being charged and arraigned on a total of 18 counts of sexual abuse against four victims who were minors at the time of the alleged crimes between 1991 and 2001, when Morris served as a bishop in Livermore.
“This case involves deeply troubling allegations of abuse of trust and authority involving children,” Alameda County District Attorney Jones Dickson said in a press release Thursday. “Our office remains committed to pursuing justice for survivors of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed, whenever the law permits prosecution.”
Morris is set to appear in court for a hearing at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin on Friday.
