Welcome to the Playbook!
Each week the Playbook will bring you a story about something related to the current sports taking place locally. With 40-plus years of covering the East Bay Athletic League, the Playbook knows the landscape of local sports and will bring you the ins and outs, as well as the good (and the bad) of prep sports!
The Playbook is delivered each Tuesday into your inbox! It’s free — you just register to get it. Be sure to share with the players and parents of your team so they can get the Playbook each week too! They can do it at danvillesanramon.com.
The Big Picture looks at George Schmitt Jr. of the Foothill baseball team. Schmitt, a junior, is having a fantastic season, hitting over .400 overall. Last week he was offered by Cal-Berkeley. We talked with the left-handed power hitter about committing to the Bears.

Standout Foothill hitter commits to Cal baseball
Overall, this year for Foothill High junior baseball player George Schmitt Jr. has been a case of this being his world and we’re all just living in it.

Power Rankings as of April 1.
EBAL BASEBALL
1. Granada (7-2, 4-0): The Mats took out Monte Vista and California last week to stay unbeaten in EBAL play and keep the top spot. They have a pair of games with Amador Valley this week.
2. De La Salle (5-2, 2-1): The Spartans get a pair of gritty wins, beating Dublin 1-0, then follow with a 5-4 win over Foothill.
3. Dublin (11-2, 3-2): Dropped a 1-0 game to De La Salle then came back with a 4-2 win against Monte Vista. Big game on April 1 with Livermore.
4. Amador Valley (7-3, 2-2): The Dons won a couple straight, then got hammered by a 5-5 San Ramon Valley team, losing 11-2. Big pair of games with Granada this week.
5. Foothill (9-3, 2-2): The Falcons shut out Dougherty Valley 7-0, then went on the road and took De La Salle to the limit before falling 5-4.
In the hunt: Livermore (9-4, 3-1), California (4-4, 1-3), San Ramon Valley (5-6, 2-2), Monte Vista (3-9, 1-3), Dougherty Valley (1-10, 0-4).
EBAL SOFTBALL
1. Livermore (7-2, 3-0): With wins over Foothill, Amador Valley, and Dublin, the Cowboys jump to the top spot in the Power Rankings for now.
2. Amador Valley (5-3, 2-1): The Dons will fall from the top spot after dropping a 3-0 game to Livermore. They rallied later in the week to beat Granada 15-6.
3. Carondelet (4-4, 3-0): The Cougars played no league games last week and with Livermore jumping to No. 1, they will fall a spot.
4. Foothill (7-3-1, 2-1): The Falcons put a 19-5 hurting on Dublin and will gain a spot for now. Love the Foothill offensive attack.

In the hunt: California (5-2, 2-1), Dougherty Valley (5-4, 1-3), Monte Vista (4-4, 0-3), Granada (4-4, 2-2), Dublin (1-6, 0-4).
EBAL BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
